Education & Mentorship

With the help of our volunteers and executive team, we provide:

  1. Tutoring Services - Local refugee children are tutored by our volunteers in subjects like English, Biology, Chemistry, and History.

  2. Weekly ESL Classes - Our ongoing ESL classes are currently held via zoom and conducted by Teresa Hsin-Yu Hsu Contreras. We provide multi-level classes (literacy to advanced), transportation, and childcare.

  3. Employee & Mentorship Services - These services aim to connect refugees with local mentors who can help guide them toward a long-term and sustainable career, as well as aid in professional development.

Community Support

With the help of our volunteers and team, we provide:

  1. Health & Behavioral Health Workshops - These workshops aim at educating refugees on public health or behavioral health issues such as wellness, dealing with stress, or PTSD.

  2. Food, Emergency Help and COVID-19 Aid - We help deliver food boxes to refugee families and if any family is need of emergency help (e.g. eviction), either our team or our local partners try their best to find a solution. Some of our highlights pertaining this are:

  • Provided sanitation-related items to refugee families, including masks, informational pamphlets, thermometers, disinfectants.

  • Provided hundreds in COVID-relief checks to local refugees struggling to meet their rent.

  • Provided medication for COVID-19 infected community members.

  • Delivered food and supplies for refugee families affected by COVID-19.

Women’s Entrepreneurship

With this initiative, we aim to empower local refugee women with the tools to start and run a successful business.

We helped one of the refugee women, Friba, create Taste of Afghanistan, an Afghan cuisine catering company. Currently, we are helping refugee women passionate about jewelry and artisanship create an online e-commerce store.

Aid to Refugee Camps

With our donations and the help of our volunteers, Glocally Connected is able to donate blankets, masks, backpacks, school supplies, and hygienic supplies to refugee camps in Turkey and Syria. We have been able to reach hundreds of refugees with our aid and hope to continue expanding to reach more who need it.

International Scholarships

We have able to sponsor over 5 girls in Turkey and the United States with scholarships to further and continue their academic endeavors. We are continuing to expand our scholarship program, so that more refugees have a chance at a better future.

Advocacy Work

Dr. Selin Nielsen attends conferences and conducts presentations all around the world to raise awareness and educate people on pressing refugee issues, as well as advocate for policy changes. She has held workshops in Turkey, presentations in Denmark, and advocated for refugee issues at the United Nations, as well as Washington D.C. In the future, Dr. Selin hopes to expand her education and advocacy work to middle and high schools, as a way to engage the youth in humanitarian work.
