Scope of Work:
As a Newcomers' English Tutor with HMI, you will be instrumental in helping newcomers improve their English language skills, which are essential for their successful integration into the community. This role offers you the opportunity to provide personalized instruction and support, serving as a friendly face and valuable resource for individuals working to navigate their new environment.
Time Commitment:
2 hours per week
A minimum commitment of 6 months is required, with at least 2 hours of tutoring per week
Location:
TBD by Client and Volunteer
Sessions will take place at the client’s home or another mutually agreed-upon location.
Responsibilities:
English Language Instruction: Help refugees learn and practice English, focusing on both verbal and written communication skills.
Personalized Support: Offer tailored guidance to meet the unique needs of each learner, aiding their integration into the community.
Friendly Resource: Serve as a supportive and approachable contact, helping clients build confidence and familiarity with their new surroundings.
Qualifications:
Strong Command of English: Excellent proficiency in English is essential for effective teaching.
Cultural Sensitivity: Respect and understanding of diverse backgrounds are crucial for fostering a positive learning environment.
Self-Motivation: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and creativity in teaching methods.
Confidentiality: Handle sensitive client information with discretion and professionalism.
Patience and Creativity: These qualities are vital for engaging and supporting learners through their language acquisition journey.
Previous Experience: While prior tutoring experience or knowledge of a second language is beneficial, it is not required. HMI offers ESL training for all tutors to equip you with the necessary skills.
