Giving Tuesday is TOMORROW!

Imagine walking for 7 hours just to reach a healthcare facility.

For many refugee women in Riverside County, this is their reality. Without access to a driver’s license, everyday tasks like grocery shopping, attending school, or visiting the doctor can become monumental challenges.

Our recent Transportation Time Analysis Report highlights these struggles and underscores the transformative power of accessible transportation:

🚶‍♀️ Walking: The longest journeys took nearly 7 hours, with an average of 1 hour per trip.

🚌 Bus Travel: Averaged 40 minutes but remains inaccessible for some destinations due to limited routes.

🚗 Car Travel: The fastest option, averaging 10 minutes, enabling efficient access to critical resources.

Stories Behind the Data…

For Amal, a mother of three, walking is her only means of transport to her children’s school—taking her nearly 90 minutes each way. For Fatima, a bus ride to her ESL classes isn’t even an option as there’s no stop nearby. With a driver’s license, their lives could be radically different.

Detailed Insights by Destination

  • Grocery Stores: A car cuts travel time from up to 1 hour on foot to just 11 minutes.

  • Schools: Walking takes up to 1.5 hours, compared to just 15 minutes by car.

  • Healthcare: The difference is staggering—up to 7 hours walking versus 40 minutes driving.

  • ESL Classes: For many, a driver’s license could mean the difference between attending or missing class altogether.

Why Does This Matter?

Without reliable transportation, refugee women are isolated from opportunities to build independent, fulfilling lives. Something as simple as learning to drive can open doors to education, employment, and healthcare for them and their families.
