Wellness, Connection, and Community: HMI Hosts Beach Yoga Session for Ukrainian Women

Summer 2026 is here and we wanted to start the season with a day full of wellness, connection, and community. Recently, our HMI team organized a beach yoga and wellness session for Ukrainian women in Orange County. The day created a peaceful space for relaxation, emotional support, and connection for the women of our community. Although a one off, our clients are already requesting more dates as the day truly brought joyful memories and new connections.

Wellness Through Movement and Creativity

The workshop was guided in English by HMI case manager, Anastasiia, to encourage participants to practice mindfulness while also building confidence in English conversation. Through yoga and meditation, women were able to slow down, reflect, and focus on their well-being while connecting with others who share similar experiences. After the wellness session, guests were invited to participate in an art therapy activity led by HMI case managers Nika and Jenny. Women expressed themselves through flower and rhinestone face art designs, creating a joyful and creative atmosphere centered on self-expression, relaxation, and community care. At the end of the event, each participant received a mental health journal designed to support stress management, mindfulness, and English language practice through daily journaling.

Building Belonging Through Community

The gathering welcomed both returning and first-time participants from the Ukrainian community, bringing together 20 attendees including clients, HMI staff, IRC partners, and community supporters for a day focused on wellness, belonging, and mutual support.

More than just a wellness activity, the session created a welcoming space where Ukrainian women could build friendships, share experiences, and feel supported while adjusting to life in the United States. Participants shared excitement about continuing outdoor wellness gatherings together in the future, highlighting the importance of safe spaces centered on healing and connection.

Reflecting on the experience, HMI Case Manager and yoga instructor Anastasiia shared:

“My favorite part was seeing these women come together by the ocean, sharing stories, practicing yoga, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Moments like these remind me that healing often begins with connection and a sense of belonging. Being their yoga guide for a day was the minimum I could do for the community.” - Anastasiia Krylova
