Dr. Nielsen Honored with MolinaCares Community Champion Award

HMI President & Founder, Dr. Selin Nielsen, Honored with MolinaCares Community Champion Award
Riverside, CA – August 1st, 2024 – Human Migration Institute (HMI) is proud to announce that our President and Founder, Dr. Selin Y. Nielsen, has been awarded the MolinaCares Community Champion Award. This award celebrates individuals whose leadership, volunteerism, and public advocacy embody the spirit of compassion and service. Dr. Nielsen’s dedication to supporting and uplifting refugee communities has earned her this distinguished recognition.
As part of the MolinaCares Community Champion Award, Dr. Nielsen will receive a $5000 grant for the nonprofit organization of her choice, which she has graciously decided to donate to HMI. This grant will further support HMI’s mission of helping refugees integrate and thrive in their new communities.
Dr. Nielsen was nominated for this award by fellow organizations and community members, including Congressman Mark Takano. In his nomination letter, Congressman Takano highlighted Dr. Nielsen's significant contributions, stating, "As the visionary Founder and President of HMI, Dr. Nielsen has dedicated her time to spearheading initiatives that address pressing health disparities and promote equity for vulnerable populations, particularly refugees. Her advocacy for refugees is visible in many initiatives she has established."
Under Dr. Nielsen’s dynamic leadership, HMI has consistently been at the forefront of providing critical support and resources to displaced populations worldwide. Her impact is most deeply felt in Riverside, CA, where HMI has made significant progress in improving the health and well-being of underserved populations through targeted initiatives and local partnerships.
