Education is our foundation
Many of the families we serve arrive with limited English, interrupted schooling, and children who need immediate academic support. Without access to language education and academic pathways, barriers compound quickly — affecting employment, healthcare access, civic participation, and long-term stability. Education is the foundation of everything HMI does, and our team of dedicated educators meets community members exactly where they are, building the skills and confidence that make everything else possible.

We offer programs for every stage from foundational English for adults who are new to the classroom, to consistent, caring support for children navigating a new school system.
Community ESL
Our ESL classes are designed to meet adult learners at the very start of their English journey — no prior classroom experience needed. Classes are intimate, welcoming, and structured to build real, practical language skills alongside confidence, in a culturally grounded, gender-specific setting that honors where each person comes from.

Language as a doorway
For many of our adult learners, this is their first experience in a classroom. We meet them there, with patience, cultural understanding, and practical skills that connect directly to their daily lives.
Every child deserves a champion
Our tutors show up consistently, learn each student's story, and build the kind of trust that lets real learning happen.
Refugee School Impact Program
The RSI Program walks alongside newly arrived students and their families during one of the most demanding transitions of their lives. We connect families to the resources they need to feel stable, help parents understand and navigate U.S. school systems, and engage them as true partners in their child's education — all delivered in their home language, by people who understand their experience.
